The agents revealed that the phenomena occurred so often, that 93 per cent of Raine & Horne real estate agents actually recommend their clients improve their lawns before selling their house. Of the real estate agents surveyed, 40 per cent of agents believe a nicely presented lawn can boost your home’s value by 20 per cent, while 23.3 per cent of agents surveyed believed it could bolster your homes value by 30 per cent. Given that the median price of an Australian dwelling is currently sitting at $550,610 – according to CoreLogic – 20 per cent works out to be roughly $110,000.

A typical lawn grub, often called white grubs, are white, C-shaped beetle larvae about a half inch in length. Grubs eventually turn into adult beetles and emerge from soil to mate and lay eggs, which hatch into more grubs. If you can pull up a patch off grass, the root system may have been eaten by grubs. Cut into the soil and look for their presence. More than 20 grubs per square metre is a red flag. 

The presence of grubs may be an indication that beetles are laying eggs in your lawn. Tan-colored chafer beetles are most active just after sunset. 

Grub damage can often effect small irregular patches of a lawn and will will appear brown, dry and wilted. Their damage can be extensive during a severe outbreak if left untreated.
